Bacteriology
Bacteriology includes aerobic and anaerobic isolation; antimicrobial susceptibility testing; and fungal isolation and identification. Genotyping is available for E. coli (987P, F41, K88, K99, F18 serotyping and their toxins), Clostridium perfringens, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (types 1, 5, 7), and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae ELISA test. Other bacterial serotyping requests are forwarded to referral laboratories, such as the National Veterinary Services Laboratories. Fluorescent antibody testing is also provided for Leptospira and Clostridium chauvoei, novyi, sordellii and septicum. Polymerase chain reaction tests are available for avian mycoplasmas, Lawsonia intracellularis and Brachyspira spp.
