Virology
Multiple detection systems are available for viral antigen capture, recognition and culture. Procedures include viral isolation in cell culture and embryonating chicken eggs, fluorescent antibody tissue section test, latex agglutination (rotavirus type A), negative contrast electron microscopy, auramine-O staining for coccidia and cryptosporidia, antigen capture ELISA for type A influenza, and PCR detection of selected viral agents (refer to Molecular Diagnostics). Serologic services include EIA agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID), pseudorabies program testing (G1, latex agglutination) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome ELISA, as well as hemagglutination- inhibition (HI), AGID, complement fixation, neutralization and ELISA for viral disease agents of other species.
